The Open Door Mission, we take pride in what we are able to offer as just one of many homeless shelters in the United States. With limited resources, our main shelter building can still sleep over 65 people per night. We have many dreams for additions to the shelter. Please visit the page, "Online Donations," for non-profit organizations like ours are inextricably linked to the generosity of people like YOU.The cost of maintaining the main shelter building is $24,000 per month.
FACILITIES
At Open Door, single men sleep in two areas, separate from women and families. One is for those on the Fresh Start Program, and the other is for temporary and short-term clients.
Single women and families are housed together in our Family Center. This section contains two-bed rooms and larger rooms, plus a nursery/play area (supervised by parents). We can house up to five average-sized families. A lounge is available with television, books, toys, and games for the children.
We are proud to be one of the small but significant homeless shelters in the United States.
OUR NEW FACILITIES NEED YOUR DONATIONS!
If we receive NEEDED online donations for non-profit organizations like ours to assist us with building costs, we hope to complete the following projects which would have immeasurable positive impact on the lives of those who are served at Open Door:
- The Open Door Mission Thrift Shop, which will provide an extra source of income for our mission;
- A Prayer Chapel, which will support the integral role that spirituality plays in recovery and healing;
- A Women-Only Transitional Facility which would provide housing for women who have graduated from emergency housing and are ready for the next step towards life in the outside world.
RULES OF BEHAVIOR:
- No alcohol.
- No drugs.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Do not fraternize with any person in a sexual way.
We take in people of all ages, genders, religion, race, disability, veteran status, or lifestyle. We do not discriminate, but we will not allow people who have been convicted of a violent crime or child molestation to stay here. Racial prejudice will also not be tolerated.
