History
The OPEN DOOR recently celebrated twenty years of serving the homeless in Fort Collins. Open Door Mission was founded in September of 1987. In the beginning we served as a small soup kitchen and day center, serving evening meals and giving free clothes and food baskets to those in need.Twenty years later, we pride ourselves on being one of the foremost Christian charities assisting needy people in the Fort Collins area and Northern Colorado. We also provide transitional housing for ex-prisoners, an often-neglected community.
We serve an average of 2,300 meals per month and house an average of 451 people per month. We recently opened a transitional house for those who have moved beyond ODM, and are in the middle of opening a thrift shop and a facility for women. We have dreams for so much more, but
THESE DREAMS DEPEND ON YOUR GENEROSITY.
Since the moment twenty years ago when Reverend Thebo was called to do this work, Open Door Mission has always worked to improve how homeless people are treated by society by feeding and providing shelter to one person at a time. We have grown based only on the generosity of those who want to give to Christian charities. Assisting needy children, women, and men, whether it be a warm place to spend the afternoon, a bed to stay the night, a warm breakfast on a cold morning--or the promise of a new life through our Fresh Start Program, transitional housing for ex-prisoners, or spiritual services--Open Door is proud of the twenty years we have worked to improve how homeless people are treated by society, one needy person at a time.
